Geographical Conditions . Nanning is located in the southern Guangxi of China in the low latitude area (22.49 ¡ã N £¬ 108.21 ¡ã E). The topography is flat being surrounded by hills and slanting from the northwest to the southwest. It faces to the Southeast Asia, neighbors with Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, adjoins with the Beibu Gulf to the south, backs on the Southwest China and connects with Indochina Peninsular to the west. Yongjiang River which runs through the city is the major tributary of the Pearl River water system.

Climate . Nanning belongs to the sub-tropical monsoon climate. The summer is long, hot and rainy while the winter is short, warm and dry. The annual total radiation of sun is 111.9 kcal/cm 2 , the annual average hours of sunshine are 1827 hours and the sunshine percentage is 39%. The mean annual temperature is 21.6 ¡æ , with extreme high temperature of 40.4 ¡æ and extreme low temperature of -2.1 ¡æ . The frost period is short, with averagely only 4.3 days of frost in a year. The annual precipitation is 1304.2mm. The wind direction changes with the seasons but prevails the east wind and southeast wind throughout the year due to the topographic impacts. The annual average wind speed is 1.8m/s, with extreme wind speed of 34.4m/s. The seasonal variation in wind speeds is not obvious, being most in spring, less in summer and minimum in autumn.

Population & Ethnic Groups.
The total population of Nanning City is 6.4167 million, of which, the population in the city proper is 1.5 million. The city is inhabited by 36 ethnic groups including Zhuang, Han, Miao, Yao etc. who get on harmoniously and saturated with elegant ethnic grace and traditional custom.
